All About Bet Levels, Paylines, Coins and Denomination
When you see a screenshot from an online slot often you can’t tell the exact amount won at a glance without the help of supporting text. You see the number on the screen but you don’t know the sum. There is a reason for it – online slots work not with the currencies (euros, dollars, pounds, etc.) but with coins.
It is time to clarify the issues concerning bets, bet levels, coins and paylines in online slots by leading providers.
1. Netent
a. Currency
In most Netent slots one coin is equal to 10-25 dollars/euros. Why is it so? It depends on number of lines in each particular slot.
Example: the bet is 1 coin per line, there are 20 lines in total, the overall bet is $20.
This value is called “coin denomination”. Normally you can find this option on the right side of a slot.
In this case the win is displayed in full scale. The sum awarded at the paylines is the same sum you see on your screen.
However, you can decrease your bet. For this purpose the coin denomination can be decreased to 0.1 which is equal to 1/10 of the original coin value.
In this case you should divide the displayed win by 10 to get the sum as your coin value is 0.1
The second option (normally it appears on the left side) displays the bet level. What does it mean?
If you want to play with the bet which is higher than 0.5 or 1 per coin (depends on the casino) you can increase the bet level.
In this case if the coin denomination is equal to 1, the win will be displayed in full scale regardless the fact you increased the bet level.
Also you can increase the bet level but set coin denomination at 0.1. The same way in this case you will need to divide the win by 10.
However, there is a doubling area in all Netent slots which always shows your win in real money, not in coins.
b. Paylines adjustment is possible (which leads to bet level decrease).
Example:
2. Microgaming
Slots by this provider are of a different kind. There are 2 options in Microgaming slots: number of coins and coins value. However, the displayed win doesn’t depend on these options. The win is always displayed in full scale which means the number you see on your screen is the same number which is added to your account balance when you win.
a. Currency
The minimal bet per spin for 243-lines slots is between 0.3-0.5 (depends on the slot).
b. Paylines adjustment is not possible.
Example:

You can’t change coin denomination or bet level at all but you are offered to choose from a list of prefilled bets.

a. Currency
The minimal bet is 10 coins which is equal to 0.1 dollar or euro. The reason for this is that in game 1 dollar is equal to 100 coins and the minimal bet is 10 coins. 10/100 = $0.1 correspondingly.
The win is displayed not in full scale. It should be divided by 100.
b. Paylines adjustment is possible. Some slots allow you to do it by decades of lines (which leads to bet level decrease).
Example:
5. Novomatic (Greentube)
In Novomatic slots you can only change bet per line. The win is displayed in full scale.
